Panasonic Hosts Commercial Support Workshop May 2008

Panasonic ideas for life logo Our second Commercial Support workshop was held 13 March 2008 in partnership with Panasonic Manufacturing Ltd UK (PMUK). This was exclusively for our four partner companies. It involved a presentation about how Panasonic addresses the environment in their design process and overall business strategy, a site tour and informal discussion sessions to learn about the commercial realities faced by this global manufacturer.

Panasonic and Technics are brand names for Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd. of Japan (MEI), one of the World's largest manufacturers of consumer electronics. PMUK, based in Cardiff, has been heavily involved with EU product environmental legislation developments, have actively participated in many European working groups and have led the way in terms of compliance with key directives such as the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)

During the meeting partner companies learnt about Panasonic’s approach and philosophy, something that has remained consistent since it was established in 1929. In addition to a presentation, the Environmental Compliance Lab showcased LCA software and the company’s comprehensive environmental and safety testing labs.

This session explored the internal communication challenges that all the businesses face in relation to embracing ecodesign. Whilst these challenges differ depending upon the make-up of each company; the potential risks of failing to communicate effectively are all very similar.
