Inaugural Ecodesign Industry Network Event

1st December 2009   Cardiff, Wales

The Ecodesign Centre (EDC) successfully launched its Ecodesign Industry Network on the 1st December 2009. The cross-sectoral network is an EDC initiative that aims to inspire and enable ecodesign in industry, focusing initially on Welsh companies. The network will focus on ensuring companies are in a position to meet an increasing worldwide demand for ecodesign products, along with directly contributing to the delivery of policy, e.g. the 2009 Welsh Assembly Government Green Jobs Strategy.

The inaugural event had a full attendance with 10 Welsh companies representing a wide range of sectors including construction, optoelectronics, design, building, general manufacturing, furniture, high value manufacturing and automotive. Two of EDC’s client companies, Orangebox and Global Laser, outlined how they had achieved significant business benefits through implementing ecodesign strategies across their business practices.

The event identified a number of potential collaborations and strategic partnerships in areas such as knowledge exchange, new business development, resource sharing and technology transfer. Business development opportunities were also highlighted for new products, processes and services.

EDC have received excellent feedback from the companies who are keen for the network to continue. Before the next meeting, which will be held in Spring 2010, EDC will explore options to finance the network.
