SCORE! Network Conference March 2008

EDC recently made a presentation at the SCORE! Network conference “Framework for Action” in Brussels. The SCORE! Network is one of the EU`s central support structures for the UN`s 10 Year Framework of Programs for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP).

The network ran a series of events and conferences to analyse the state of the art in SCP research, and promoted cases of (radical) sustainable consumption for mobility, agro-food and energy use.

The paper presented by EDC was “Supporting sustainable regional innovation and ecodesign in small to medium enterprises - a discussion on the issue with insights from Wales”. This paper highlighted perceptions of ecodesign and sustainable development amongst design-led small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in Wales. It followed a series of research activities over the last 12 months by EDC.

The paper showed that within design-led SMEs in Wales there is a concern at a managerial and operational level for sustainability issues in product and service development. The paper also reflected upon the barriers that prevent many of these SMEs from implementing ecodesign and sustainable innovation and identified key action areas for intervention and support.
