Cardiff Design Festival
October 2008
The Cardiff Design Festival is the city’s most exciting celebration of good design. It has been running annually for the last 4 years with a key role to play in the promotion of Welsh creative talent.
The festival is organized and facilitated by Cardiff School of Art & Design at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) in affiliation with a number of sponsors and partners.
In 2008 the Cardiff design festival will take place in mid October and will include an extensive series of events for designers, students, the business community and the general public.

International Workshop on Design Support (IWDS)
13 October 2008, 10am – 3.30pm
St David’s Hotel & Spa, Cardiff bay
Organised by Design Wales, international speakers share their thoughts about design policy, local incubators, design support schemes for SMEs and design award initiatives.
This event is aimed at those driving a design agenda at a regional strategic level or managing current design support programmes.

Success from Design - DME European Showcase
13 October 2008, 5pm – 6.30pm
Wales Millennium Centre, Victor Salvi Room
Organised jointly by Design Wales in partnership with Design Management Europe (DME) this showcase will feature three European companies that are shortlisted for the Design Management Europe Award.
Following the European showcase the Design Management Europe Award Ceremony will take place.

Design Management Europe Award (DME Award) Ceremony 2008
13 October 2008, 6.30pm
Wales Millennium Centre
The DME Award sets out to recognise in European businesses and public organisations the best management practices to implement design strategically and maximise its efficiency. The award serves to improve the competitiveness of small and medium-sizes companies within the European and international markets.
2008 marks the second round for the DME award. PDR, The National Centre for Product Design and Development Research, will be hosting the award ceremony in Cardiff on 13 October at the Wales Millennium Centre.
The award ceremony will be a central event for the 2008 Cardiff Design Festival.

New Product & Service Design Development: Case studies and guidance for business
14 October 2008, 10am – 3.30pm
St David’s Hotel & Spa, Cardiff Bay
Design Wales have organised a one day conference to present how six European companies have achieved competitive success through design. Delivered by the companies themselves the aim is to share their experiences, highlight lessons learnt and provide inspiration for others to follow.
